Ngong Ping viewing point is one of the few plateaus in Hong Kong and offers a great location for camping or having a picnic, as its grasslands are surrounded by low-lying shrubs and the land is generally flat.
It is also a famous spot used for paragliding landing and take-off.
The trail is mainly a dirt path with a mix of clay. The ascents and descents of the trail are a split between flat rock steps and highly irregular rock paths.
The path at the plateau is made of dirt and small rocks. Walking along the ridges is extremely comfortable and satisfying.
There are small sections of the hike that are damp, even on a dry day. This, combined with the rocky steps, makes it slippery and difficult to walk.
Finishing the hike and heading down to Ma On Shan Country Trail, Yiu On Estate.
The trail heading down consists of an easy-to-follow pathway, stone steps and stairs, and paved roads.
The road eventually gets flatter the closer you get to the village area where the bus stop is located.
Recommend bringing at least 2 liters of hydration with a few snacks. Wear proper hiking shoes as the terrain is sandy and might be slippery.
