Shek Pik Country Trail | Shek Pik Reservoir to Ngong Ping
Located within South Lantau Country Park, Shek Pik Reservoir (石壁水塘) is the third largest freshwater reservoir in Hong Kong. Running along its eastern perimeter is the Shek Pik Country Trail.
Distance - 7km
Duration - 3 hours (Including rest & photo)
Difficulty - Beginner to intermediate
Embark on a scenic hiking adventure along a moderately easy trail that leads from the picturesque reservoir to the tranquil Wisdom Path at Ngong Ping Village.
Along the way, you'll encounter the awe-inspiring Po Lin Monastery and the majestic Tian Tan Giant Buddha.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to surround yourself with nature on this incredible journey! It's the perfect trail to hit, especially on a hot and sunny day.
The Shek Pik Country trail stretches over 5.5 kilometers and features a total elevation gain of 400 meters.
The trail is not considered the most challenging in Lantau, nor is it known for its scenic views. Instead, hikers will find themselves surrounded by dense forest for much of the journey, with only intermittent glimpses of the reservoir below breaking through the trees.
The trail is bustling with activity as it serves as the starting point for the popular Kau Nga Ling (Dog’s Teeth Range) trails, offering exhilarating ridge hikes along the southern side of Lantau Peak.
Hiking the entire country trail to Ngong Ping is an amazing experience, and for those seeking more adventure, the Ngong Ping 360 Rescue Trail leads all the way to Tung Chung for an additional thrill!
Make sure to bring a minimum of 2 liters of water, and even more in hot weather.
Wearing a hat, sun sleeves, and comfortable hiking shoes is highly recommended.
