*Starting Point*
The Kai Shan Hike, best traversed from south to north, promises breathtaking views of the wetlands and Shenzhen that beckons ahead. Begin your adventure with a refreshing 1 km walk from Tin Shui Wai to reach the southern starting point.
From Tin Shui Wai station take exit at C or D, which will lead you to Tin Fuk Road. From there, simply walk towards Long Tin Road. Alternatively, you can follow the signs for Ha Mei San Tsuen, as they are clearly marked along the pedestrian path, guiding your way effectively.
Opposite the car park, next to the Ha Mei San Tsuen public toilet, is an unmarked trail that leads through trees to a large open space.
As the trail approaches Kai Shan, the views become more impressive. At the foot of the hill, there's a shaded bench—perfect for a break.
*The Steep Climb To The Summit*
The toughest part of the hike begins right after the bench, with a steep uphill climb that eases into shrubs and grass. Take it slow; this portion is short-lived. At a clearing, avoid the right trail. The left trail is less steep and nearly the same length as the middle trail. After this final climb, you'll find another shaded bench where you can enjoy views of Yuen Long.
*Views From Kai Shan*
Hiking on a clear day offers stunning views across the wetlands and bay of Hong Kong. It feels like standing on the last hill in the region.
*To The Stone Paintings*
From the triangulation station, the downhill trail leads to a small garden with a bench. There are various rock paintings along the trail, showcasing scenes of villages and explorers, creatively utilizing the contours of the rocks.
*To Shing Uk Tsuen*
The rock painting area marks the end of the hike. The descent reveals the Shenzhen skyline, especially beautiful during sunset. Choose the left or center trails for the best views of the village. These trails converge before exiting near Shing Uk Tsuen village.
*Finish The Hike*
Walk down the road past the houses until merging with Fuk Shun Street. Turn right to reach the green minibus stop for bus 74, which goes to Long Ping MTR Station. Don’t forget sunscreen and an umbrella if it’s sunny, as shade is scarce on the trail.
